Mount Prospect restaurant closes without explanation

The popular Mount Prospect restaurant Michael's, at 113 S. Emerson St., has been closed for around two weeks, leaving everyone - neighbors, patrons and village officials - wondering where it went.

According to an employee at one neighboring business, on the day the restaurant was first closed, would-be diners walked into his store and asked if there was any reason the restaurant was not open.

The Village of Mount Prospect received no notification the eatery would close, and Village Manager Michael Janonis said that they only found out about the closing from a standard police premises check on June 14.

"We're the last ones to know when a business closes," he said.

Michael's had a liquor license, which will expire after 30 days if the business does not reopen. The village has not been able to get in contact with the owners of the restaurant, but have sent them a formal letter.

Attempts by the Daily Herald to contact the owners have also been unsuccessful.

There is no sign or notice explaining the sudden vacancy at the restaurant, though there is a small sign asking anyone interested in the property to contact the Deano Vass Co., of Glenview, which specializes in restaurant properties.

The Deano Vass Company could not be reached after multiple attempts.
