Charges filed in shaken baby case in Mt. Prospect

Mount Prospect police have arrested a Chicago man for shaking his 6-month-old son.

Julian Santos, 21, of the 2000 block of North Latrobe, faces a felony count of aggravated domestic battery and a misdemeanor charge of violating an order of protection.

Police began investigating allegations against Santos on Jan. 6 after receiving notification from the Department of Children and Family Services about a suspected abuse case. Police said the investigation revealed Santos was alone watching his son on Jan. 5 at Santos’ grandmother’s house in the 0-100 block of North Main Street in Mount Prospect.

The infant began crying uncontrollably and after failed attempts to comfort him, Santos became frustrated and shook him, causing the baby to become unconscious, police said.

Santos and his mother drove the unresponsive infant to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights for treatment. The infant was later transferred to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of serious injuries sustained as a result of being shaken, police said.

DCFS took protective custody of the child.

The charge for violating the order of protection stems from an order issued in October 2011 prohibiting Santos from unlawful contact with the infant, police said.

Bond for Santos was set at $15,000. Santos is set to appear at the Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows at 9 a.m. Feb. 10 in Room 108.
