Des Plaines Scout troop begins 100th anniversary

In 2012, Park Ridge’s Troop 1 will celebrate its 100th anniversary of being chartered in the Boy Scouts of America.

To commemorate this extraordinary milestone, the troop is planning various “100-themed” activities throughout the community in 2012, beginning with it sending 100 Christmas cards to troops in Afghanistan.

“The Boy Scouts and our troops share many of the same values beginning with service, discipline and citizenship,” said Art Steinke, Troop 1 anniversary chairman, historian and treasurer.

“In addition, two of Troop 1’s Eagle Scouts, Captain Tim Paschke, Air Force, and Frank Avila, U.S. Army are currently serving overseas. Remembering our troops in this very simple way during the holidays seems like an appropriate way for our boys to mark the start of our anniversary celebration.”
