Submitted by Fox Valley Associates of The Art Institute

Join the Fox Valley Associates of The Art Institute of Chicago on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Baker Hotel in St. Charles for a lecture on the artist, Caravaggio.

In “Anti Art: Caravaggio, His Followers and Rivals,” learn how Caravaggio brushed against the grain of the established understanding of art and painting in the 15th-century Italy. His painting style and innovation lasted till Monet.

Hear about his art, his life, his controversy and influence in Italy and beyond Italian borders. Hear about his street brawl escapades and his enormous talent as an artist that led him from Rome to Naples to Malta to Sicily and finally his early demise in yet another street brawl. Explore one of the most important artists of the Baroque era.

The lecturer, Terah Walkup, is from The Art Institute of Chicago. She earned her bachelor’s degree in art history at the University of Texas, Austin and her master’s degree in art history at Northwestern University.
