New Schaumburg police dog to be sworn int

Schaumburg Police Chief Brian Howerton is inviting the community to attend the swearing-in of the department's new police dog, Majic, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12 in the community room of the Schaumburg police station at 1000 W. Schaumburg Road.

Majic and his partner, Officer Denis Schmitt, have been attending training for the past five weeks at Vohne Liche Kennels in Denver, Ind.

Majic, who will be 2 years old in December, is a purebred German Shepherd born in the Netherlands.

The department's current canine officer, Thunder, is retiring to live with his partner, Officer Bruce Cram, who's being promoted to sergeant in a ceremony starting at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 12.
