Des Plaines Park Board Appoints New Commissioner

The Des Plaines park board of commissioners appointed local resident Erin Doerr to serve the remainder of the term recently vacated by Joseph Weber, at the July 30, 2019, regular meeting. A request for applications was posted on May 22, 2019, and the nine submitted were reviewed by the board at a special meeting on July 2, 2019.

Five candidates were selected, and interviews were conducted in an Executive Session prior to the July 30, 2019 board meeting. In a second Executive Session immediately following the regular meeting, the board voted unanimously to appoint Doerr to serve until the next Consolidated General Election on April 6, 2021. The official swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Aug. 20, 2019, park board meeting.

Interviews were conducted by the four elected park board commissioners: Jana Haas, president; James F. Grady, vice president; William J. Yates, treasurer; and Donald J. Rosedale, commissioner.

"The Park Board made an excellent choice. Erin is very positive and will bring good energy to the district," said Executive Director Don Miletic.

Doerr has served the community as president of the South Elementary School PTO, and currently serves as a commissioner for the Des Plaines Youth Commission. She holds a BS and an MBA from Dominican University.

"I look forward to working with these experienced board members to build on our solid foundation of beautiful parks and excellent facilities, and support the growth of the district's programs for kids, families, adults and seniors in our culturally diverse community," said Doerr.

The park board is a legal governing authority through which the business of the district is conducted. Elected by the public for six-year terms, the board consists of five volunteer commissioners, who meet on the third Tuesday of the month in the David L. Markworth Boardroom, at the Administrative and Leisure Center, 2222 Birch St. The public is welcome, and encouraged to attend.

Persons wishing to have items placed on the agenda should notify Board Secretary Donald Miletic, at the Administrative office, by letter or by telephone, (847) 391-5700, no later than the Wednesday before any regularly scheduled Park Board meeting. Board agendas and approved minutes of meetings are available for the public to view at the Leisure Center and Prairie Lakes Community Center. Board documents are also online at www.DPParks.org.
