Cutting wrong things at wrong time
If Republicans were truly concerned about the nation’s budget deficit, they would slash where the waste and money are, that is: 1) the $40 billion in subsidies for the extremely profitable oil and gas industry and 2) the $700-billion Pentagon budget, which totals more than the defense budgets of all the rest of the world’s countries and is extremely wasteful.
Last but certainly not least, the Republicans would not have insisted on renewing President Bush’s tax cuts for the super rich, the very cuts that contributed significantly to our huge deficit to begin with. Instead, the GOP is obsessed with gutting the underfunded budgets of essential government programs vital for the health and welfare of Americans and for creating jobs. No wonder economists view the GOP’s recent budget shenanigans as insane, because the wrong things at the wrong time were being cut.
