Model profile: The Canterbury, Maples at the Sonatas

Home buyers looking to downsize or move into a stair-free home with no maintenance responsibilities will find ranch-style living at Maples at the Sonatas in Woodstock.

Maples at the Sonatas, an Epcon community by Wilcox Development, features five ranch plans: two in the attached Cathedral Collection where homes share a common wall, and three in the stand-alone Courtyard Homes series with a private yard and courtyard.

The Sonatas development sits off Ware Road east of Route 47 on the north side of Woodstock.

Each home features an open, flowing living space with volume ceilings, two bedrooms and den (or three bedrooms), two to 2½ baths and two-car garage. The English Country exterior and architecture on each four-unit building resembles the look and feel of a luxury, single-family residence from any angle.

Extensive landscaping around each building absorbs sound, attracts birds and butterflies, absorbs rainwater into the ground and creates beautiful vistas.

“We had a successful 2011 with 22 new sales and project even more for 2012,” said Carol Lyons, sales manager. “We have aggressively adjusted our pricing for today's market and reduced our inventory homes for quick delivery.

“People like the ranch-style homes, maintenance-free lifestyle and the beautiful clubhouse with pool where residents can participate in various activities and socialize with their neighbors.”

The featured Canterbury model, priced from $204,990, offers 1,866 square feet, two bedrooms, two baths, den, finished veranda and two-car garage.

Outfitted in earth tones, this traditional design features an open living space with volume ceilings, beautiful windows topped with transoms and a mix of hardwood, tile and carpeted flooring.

An impressive feature of the home is the great room with full stone fireplace, chocolate sofa topped with lots of pillows, plasma TV and open display shelves with plants, books and favorite pieces. Floral artwork depicts the room's burgundy red accents.

Immediately adjacent to the great room is the dining room and kitchen, both topped with a cathedral ceiling.

In the dining room, a round glass table surrounded by four chairs with upholstered seats stands ready to serve guests. The room includes a free-standing clock and credenza with an ornate gold-framed mirror above.

The kitchen shows stainless steel appliances, upgraded maple cabinetry with crown molding and Corian countertops. A large pantry makes it easy to get organized while a breakfast bar adds convenience.

Owners will love the finished veranda in the front of the home where three walls of windows keep the space light and bright.

Accessed through French doors, the den or study sits off the dining room and is furnished with a desk and two chairs. This is a central spot for running the household or working from home.

The spacious master suite is dressed in burgundy and gold and topped with a cathedral ceiling. The space features a large walk-in closet and private bath with dual sinks, oversized vanity with cultured marble countertops and large walk-in shower with built-in seat.

A second bedroom is set up as a guest room and has easy access to the full hall bath.

The builder offers several options to customize homes to fit buyers' needs such as adding a second level bonus room, converting the den to a third bedroom and adding a patio to the plan.

Designs available in the stand-alone courtyard homes include Palazzo from $204,990 with 1,516 square feet; Portico from $219,990 with 1,755 square feet; and Promenade from $229,990 with 1,992 square feet.

The Canterbury design featured as the model and Abbey priced from $194,990 with 1,650 square feet comprise the attached Cathedral Collection.

The community's sales center hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. To visit, take Route 47 to Ware Road; turn east and travel for a half mile; turn left on Vivaldi and left again on Schumann Road. For more information, call (815) 334-0340 or visit www.epconcommunities.com.
