Humane society offers discounted spay/neutering
PACT Humane Society, which operates out of the Bloomingdale Petco store at 412 W. Army Trail Road, has teamed up with area veterinarians to offer low-cost spay/neuter surgeries for the pets of families in need.
The humane society has been offering cats and dogs for adoption at the store for three years.
“We have done nearly 900 adoptions at the Bloomingdale Petco,” said Chad Bettencourt, director of operations for PACT. “Now we want to be able to offer area residents assistance with spay/neuter.”
He said a grant from Petco Foundation has enabled the society to provide the assistance. The discounted prices are $25 for a male cat, $35 for a female cat, $45 for a male dog and up to $60 for a female dog. Pet owners need to show proof of vaccinations or have them done at the time of surgery at the owner’s expense starting at $10 per vaccine.
In order to maximize the number of families served by the grant, PACT is asking recipients to demonstrate proof of need, including Social Security disability, Medicare or unemployment.
However, Bettencourt said that there is no income or need requirement for pit bull dogs and feral cats. PACT also promoted trap-neuter-return for feral cats since its inception.
“Our Petco grant is enabling us to offer $20 surgeries for all feral cats which are brought to the vet hospital in a trap,” he said.
