Library should be user-fee based
So the St. Charles library wants $35 million in taxpayer money to build a new library. Where is their vision? With the advent of computers and e-books, the library of the future will look nothing like the library of today. And should taxpayers really pay for the opulence demonstrated in part of the current library in the form of at least one room with a fireplace and a few chairs?
In addition, the library in part should be user-funded. Why not charge users a token fee - say a nickel or dime per item charged out to offset the burden to taxpayers to pay into the retirement of the bloated staff? Only a small percentage of the community actually uses the library; it should be in part a user-based fee. Taxpayers should not be burdened with providing library computers for public use. Buck up and pay a fee for the freeloaders.
Join me in voting no to such a thoughtless request by the library.
