Schaumburg A.M. Rotarians warm children's hearts with new winter coats

Continuing its 21-year tradition of community service, the Rotary Club of Schaumburg A.M. recently distributed approximately 80 new winter coats to children attending the Marletta Darnall Schaumburg Child + Family Center, that provides subsidized daycare and preschool services to low-income, high-risk families residing in Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates and surrounding areas.

Many of these families live at or below poverty level. About 40 more coats will go home to their older siblings.

“Warm coats are an essential item in Chicago's winters,” said club president Jim McKenzie. “These coats provide more than just warmth. They allow children to attend school, improve their self-esteem, and allow their families to spend money on other critical essentials such as food, rent and fuel.”

Schaumburg A.M. Rotary teamed up with Operation Warm, Inc., a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to distributing high quality, new winter coats to under privileged children, to purchase coats at wholesale like prices from Operation Warm's inventory. In just over 10 years, Operation Warm has distributed more than 600,000 coats across the United States.
