Of all the varieties of fish displayed at a recent aquatic show in Schaumburg, I was most impressed with the colors and patterns of the discus fish. The fish is native to the Amazon River basin and is a popular choice for aquariums. This photo was published in the weekly Perspective column in the print edtion.

Brian Kus, of Batavia, helps clear snow from the Main Street bridge in downtown St. Charles Monday. Kus said he had been out working since 7:30 a.m. and definitely felt the temperature dropping throughout the day. Kus was working to fulfill service hours for the community restitution program.

Algonquin resident Rick Klewin shovels the last of the snow from his driveway Monday morning, after dealing with most of it using a snow thrower. Klewin said he was disappointed there wasnt more than just a few inches of snow. I love snow, Klewin said, This is nothing. He added that he was jealous that areas to the north received more snow, particularly in Wisconsin.

Sgt. Bill Rowley holds Abigail Schmidt, 2, at the Aurora Police Station on Thursday. He saved her life in October when he was off-duty and both their families were heading toward a pumpkin patch near Joliet. The vehicle in which the little girl was riding was struck by another car and she likely would have died if he had not give her CPR.
