Dump truck flips in Fox Lake

The driver of a dump truck hauling gravel suffered minor injuries after the vehicle flipped over at routes 12 and 134 in Fox Lake early Thursday morning, Fox Lake police said.

Jody Gerretsen, 46, of Ingleside, was heading south on Route 12 about 7 a.m. when she tried to turn left onto eastbound 134, Lt. Joe Gliniewicz said.

Because of the truck's speed, it swerved during the turn and flipped onto its right side in the eastbound lane of Route 134 as it crossed through the intersection, Gliniewicz said.

Gerretsen was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with minor, nonlife threatening injuries, Gliniewicz said.

Eastbound Route 134 was closed for about an hour while the gravel was cleaned up and the truck was towed away, Gliniewicz said.

Gerretsen was cited following the crash with violating a traffic control device, Gliniewicz said.

This is the third time in the last five years a gravel truck has flipped over in the busy intersection.

However, Gliniewicz said, the number of accidents at routes 12 and 134 has diminished since the village installed red light cameras.

“This used to be a problematic intersection that resulted in a large number of crashes,” he said. “But, we have noticed fewer accidents in the past year because of the traffic camera at that intersection.”
