6 years for Des Plaines intruder coralled by dog
A Des Plaines man who trespassed into a Clarendon Hills home in the middle of the night and was barked into a corner by the homeowners’ dog received a maximum 6-year prison term Wednesday, prosecutors said.
Korey Blackwood, 31, had pleaded guilty in July to residential trespass. He was sentenced by DuPage County Judge John Kinsella.
Prosecutors said Blackwood entered the home about 2 a.m. March 7 through a back door. The homeowners and their children soon heard barking and went downstairs to find their dog holding Blackwood at bay in their kitchen. Police arrived moments later and arrested the unarmed man.
“A family’s home is their sanctuary,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “For this innocent family, however, that sanctuary was violated in the middle of the night by an intruder in their kitchen. Thanks to their dog, their quick thinking and their courage, no one was physically hurt, and Mr. Blackwood was kept from leaving the residence before authorities arrived.”
Blackwood must serve at least three years before he’s eligible for parole.
