Crystal Lake man charged after police say he fled scene
A Crystal Lake man was in custody Friday night after he hit a parked car and fled the scene of an accident, Crystal Lake police said.
Oscar Mendez, 21, of the 200 block of Circle Drive, was traveling south on the 600 block of Coventry Lane in Crystal Lake when his sport-utility vehicle struck another SUV parked legally on the street, police said. The accident occurred Friday night at 9:27 p.m., police said.
After Mendez hit the SUV, he continued to drive for about another 300 feet before hitting a tree. Both Mendez’s SUV and the car he hit had to be towed from the scene of the accident, police said
Mendez was transported to Centegra Memorial Medical Center in Woodstock to be treated for minor injuries, police said. He was later released.
Crystal Lake police charged Mendez with a slew of Class A misdemeanors including driving under the influence, failure to leave information after striking unattended property, no valid driver’s license and resisting a peace officer.
Mendez was released after posting bond and faces an 8:30 a.m. court date on April 19 at the McHenry County Courthouse.
