Village of Mundelein Awards CCU With Diversity Award

Member-owned credit union recognized for its community outreach

Waukegan, IL, March 20, 2012: Consumers Credit Union (CCU; $585 MM, Waukegan, IL) earned the 2012 “Diversity Award” for local businesses from the Village of Mundelein. The Mundelein Human Relations Committee, a sub-committee of the Village appointed by the Mayor, recognized the credit union for its outstanding community outreach program.

The Diversity Awards are presented to local businesses each year in three categories: individuals, organizations and businesses that demonstrate strong efforts to promote, create programs and advocate for cultural awareness. Qualifications for the award include being part of a program that recognizes diversity, demonstrates peaceful problem solving, promotes social or cultural understanding and/or builds cross-cultural relations. The program was first created one year ago.

Consumers Credit Union participates in a variety of outreach programs throughout the community. Examples include its partnership with the Father Gary Graf Immigration Center and its participation in their citizenship program, assistance in helping 10th District Congressman Robert Dold organize his first Latino Leadership Round Table, sponsorship of the Lake County's annual Most Influential African American banquet and the annual Civil Rights Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

The award was presented at the Village Board Meeting on February 27, 2012.
