Voter ID would suppress minorities

It is a sad situation where the Republicans and their subparty Tea Party are engaged in a national policy of voter suppression under the guise of a nonexistent “voter fraud” issue. Rather than preventing fraud — which simply cannot be demonstrated to any significant degree — the effect of these restrictive “qualifications” is to suppress minority participation. The reason for that of course is that these groups have an overwhelming propensity to vote Democratic. The reason that these groups tend to vote Democratic is that the Republican Party has tried to place its heels on the necks of the less fortunate for decades.

When you feel a gun permit card is a superior form of ID than an officially issued school ID, you turn the rock of the “voter fraud’ argument over to expose its slimy underbelly of voter suppression and all that that implies.

I would think that a true American would want to encourage voter participation and persuade them to their viewpoint. Is the strength of their argument so devoid of merit?
