Two arrested in high school prank

A senior prank at St. Charles East High School turned serious this week, as two 18-year-old seniors were charged with causing $2,430 damage to the school by defacing freshmen lockers and hallways.

William W. Dula, of the 900 block of South 10th Avenue, and Robert J. Holmes, of the 500 block of Horizon Drive, both face felony charges of criminal damage and criminal defacement.

The pair are accused of writing “Senior,” and “LOLOLOLOL” inside the high school, along with painting interior windows, signs and lockers with black paint, according to court documents.

St. Charles police spokesman Paul McCurtain said both Dula and Holmes were arrested at the high school during the school day on Tuesday.

McCurtain said the high school resource officer worked with deans assistants to solve the case.

“(The officer) was advised the damage had occurred the night before and there were some security tapes of the subjects and the acts,” McCurtain said.

The felonies are punishable by up to five years in prison, but probation also is an option, if convicted. Up to this point, neither Dula nor Holmes had a criminal record in Kane County.

Both Dula and Holmes were released on their own recognizance and are due in court on June 8 and June 9, respectively.

District 303 spokesman Jim Blaney said he could not comment on possible disciplinary action taken in the case. He added that it took 48 bottles of graffiti remover, 15 gallons of paint and a total of 50 hours to clean up damage to the school’s Dunham Wing.
