Barrington's Greer commits to South Dakota
Kenny Greer hopes to be a big part of the biggest show in the town of Vermillion, S. D.
A visit a little more than a week ago to the University of South Dakota sealed Greer's decision. This was where the Barrington senior defensive lineman wanted to play college football and he gave the school a verbal commitment.
"I just really loved the atmosphere up there and the way everyone is into South Dakota football," Greer said. "Because there is no pro team up there, the school is football there.
"The visit really helped me and confirmed it was the place where I needed to be."
The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Greer said he had a couple of Division II scholarship offers and some interest from Northern Iowa and Albany.
Greer joins teammate Terrance Terry in making a commitment to South Dakota, an NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) school. Greer said that wasn't a big factor in his decision.
"It's great to have another teammate up there with me," Greer said, "but I decided to go with what's best for me."
Greer said he'll get a chance to play right away as a weak side defensive end. He plans to study business.
Gregg to Augustana: Hersey two-way lineman Dan Gregg (6-2, 250) will play at Augustana in Rock Island. Gregg was a three-year varsity starter and an all-Mid-Suburban League selection as a senior.
