Thanks for 29 years in prosecutor's office

Dear DuPage County Residents: I have been honored to serve you for the past 29 years as a prosecutor in the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. I have been blessed to serve with a great group of devoted public servants in our office, in our courts and in law enforcement. I have had the opportunity to work with and represent our elected officials who have been wonderful to me and from whom I have learned a great deal.

I deeply appreciate the support you have given me these last 14 years as your state's attorney. Your support has provided me an opportunity to be a voice for crime victims and their families in Springfield. Equally important, we have brought about needed changes in the criminal justice system and promoted integrity in the prosecution profession.

The nature and responsibilities of the office of state's attorney are demanding and require the concentrated effort of a competent state's attorney and his/her staff.

I will do all in my power to ensure a smooth transition and I trust that the office will continue to provide the professionalism you have come to expect.

I look forward to serving you and all the residents of the 13 counties that comprise the Second District as an Illinois Appellate Court Justice. Thank you again for blessing me with the opportunity to serve.

Joseph E. Birkett
