Scouting Maine West at Wheeling

Maine West (2-7) at Wheeling (2-7)

Last year's opener: Wheeling d. Maine West 27-13

Outlook: A year ago Maine West couldn't sustain a 10-0 lead and fell to 4-2 in the series. "We came out hard but the desire wasn't there and we ended up losing," said two-way Maine West standout Mike Cardamone. "This year I don't feel like something like that is going to happen. We have the drive and hunger to win those games." Wheeling junior QB Tyler Brady was 9-for-13 for 118 yards and 2 TDs in his varsity debut last year while Maine West senior RB Calvin Williams is back for his third varsity season. "I expect they'll try to run the ball with him," said Wheeling coach Dave Dunbar. "Chris (fourth-year Maine West coach Hare) is doing a real nice job and is working hard over there."
