Bloomingdale woman charged in $300,000 theft of brother doctor
A Bloomingdale woman is accused of stealing more than $300,000 from her brother’s medical practice in Downers Grove, prosecutors said Friday.
Diane M. Serur, 53, of the 200 block of Durham Lane, was indicted Thursday by the DuPage County grand jury on one count of felony theft.
Authorities said Serur stole more than $300,000 from Western DuPage Obstetrics and Gynecology while working there as office manager. The alleged scheme involved taking unauthorized payments from a company checking account and using a company credit card for personal expenses.
Assistant State’s Attorney Diane Michalak said Serur came under investigation after the Downers Grove practice, owned by the defendant’s brother, uncovered accounting discrepancies and contacted police. She said it was an ongoing theft that took place during about four years, beginning in January 2005.
Court records show Serur was taken into custody on preliminary charges in February and later released on a $10,000 bond. She is set for arraignment Tuesday before Judge Robert Kleeman. Her attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
