Barrington fixes sewer after water main breaks
Barrington continued to address utility mishaps Wednesday after discovering collateral damage to the adjacent sanitary sewer while repairing breaks Tuesday in a water main that serves the Barrington High School area.
Meanwhile, Barrington High School was itself recovering from the disruption to its restrooms caused by Tuesday’s breaks.
The drop in water pressure caused by three nearly simultaneous water main breaks on nearby Hart Road caused the restrooms at the high school to stop working just as classes were ending for the day Tuesday.
All indoor after-school activities were canceled Tuesday, but things were largely back to normal on Wednesday, Barrington Unit District 220 spokesman Jeff Arnett said.
A small number of restrooms in the far west wing of the high school continued to not function Wednesday, probably because of sediment from the water main breaks that had still not been worked out of the system, Arnett said.
But there was no disruption to the school day as the majority of the building’s 43 restrooms are outside the west wing and were working Wednesday, he added.
