Raffles, Whole Foods raise cash for museum

The Schaumburg Park Foundation is planning two raffles that will not only help fund a new interactive museum at Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg, but also provide almost unlimited recreational opportunities for two lucky winners.

The foundation's first raffle, the Family Free Play Raffle, will win one household up to $10,000 worth of Schaumburg Park District programs and services over a year.

District spokeswoman Pat Casler said this can include play tickets, class memberships, personal training, facility passes or anything else the winner is interested in.

The second raffle is the Golf-a-Palooza Raffle offering up to $10,000 in golf time at the Schaumburg Golf Club over the course of a year.

Whether the winners of the raffle are district residents or not, resident rates will apply to the winners and their prizes, Casler said.

The tickets for both raffles cost $20 each and the July 1 drawing will be televised on the Schaumburg Park District's cable station.

To register, visit parkfun.com, any Schaumburg Park District facility or call (847) 985-2115.

The new museum at Spring Valley is still in the planning and fundraising stage, but work on the first phase is hoped to start later this year, Casler said.

The new Whole Foods Market store opening Wednesday, May 5, in Schaumburg will hold the first of its quarterly Five Percent Community Days Wednesday, May 19, in which 5 percent of the day's sales go to a local community project. Whole Foods Market has dedicated the proceeds from May 19 to the Park Foundation's project, Casler said.
