Carnival a hit during final day of Glendale Heights Fest
Sharon Tomczak watched from a shady spot Sunday as her son, Raymond, whirled through the sky on The Inverter, one of the many carnival rides at Glendale Heights Fest.
“For him, it’s the faster the better, the higher the better,” said Tomczak, a Glendale Heights native who now lives in Aurora. “I’ll be lucky if he ever comes off that ride.”
Sunday was the final day of Glendale Heights Fest, the annual summer event that got under way on Wednesday at Camera Park.
In addition to all the rides, the fest included plenty of food, live music, fireworks, an “American Idol”-style singing competition and an international fashion show.
The fashion show, one of Sunday’s events, included exhibitions of clothing from the U.S., Poland and the Philippines. Spectators also got a chance to see some traditional Polish folk dancing.
For the afternoon crowd, though, the rides were the highlight.
“I like them because they’re the perfect scale for children,” said Chet Williamson, who was standing by the China Dragon roller coaster with his grandson, Steven.
The entertainment scheduled for Sunday night included popular band 7th Heaven and a festival-capping fireworks display.
