RE: Careful what you wish for

What a treasure trove the Fence Post column can be! April 3rd's was a classic example of that fact, born of the mere titles of some letters, and of the content of others. "Careful what you wish for," a title based on an old saying, is, or should be, self-explanatory. Then we have: "Surefire way to bring troops home," and this one, title and letter, is the topic of my own letter today.

Walt Zlotow submitted it, and he speaks of how " ... we in the antiwar movement have been trying to get our soldiers out of the Middle East and back home." He then hints at the threats to politicians being made now, ostensibly in response to the determination of his side of the political fence to ignore our nation's Constitution and ramrod legislation into law in direct violation of that sacred document. Walt's solution to the threats? "It looks like we may be forced to bring the boys and girls home to protect Democratic legislators and their progressive supporters from the howling mob of anti-Obamacare protesters."

Walt, note that title from the other letter, "Careful what you wish for." You anti-war-progressive-types have for decades now fought tooth and nail to defund our soldiers, even after they've been deployed to war zones. Some of your leaders berate them for doing the job we've sent them there to do, such as Sen. Kerry, whose penchant for cross-generational attacks on the military is all but legendary, the late Congressman Murtha's fiasco to bring down our soldiers in the Haditha case, and even current Senate Majority Leader Reid, who proclaimed publicly that we had already lost the war ... just as the surge began to work.

Oh, and let's not forget the social engineering your side has been working tirelessly to impose on America's finest: political correctness run amok regarding the gay issue.

Now then, after all this abuse of our soldiers, you want them brought home to "protect" the very people that have been doing all this to them?

Walt, can you possibly be so naive as to think that our troops' only inclination will be to protect your side from the very people who have steadfastly supported them over the years?
