The woman, who did not show a weapon or imply she had one, made off with an undisclosed sum of cash and took off on foot, heading west on Northwest Highway.

The robbery took place shortly before 2:30 p.m. at 300 Northwest Highway, near Route 14 and Silver Lake Road.

Police described the lone suspect as a white woman about 5 feet, 3 inches tall. She was wearing a black baseball cap, black pants and a long-sleeved, red plaid shirt.

Anyone with information should call Cary police at (847) 639-2341 or Crime Stoppers, an anonymous tip line, at (800) 762-STOP.

Cary police and the FBI are investigating the robbery.
