McHenry County nabs 'Top 10' fugitive
McHenry County Sheriff's police have arrested one of McHenry County's Top-10 most-wanted fugitives.
Around 6:15 a.m. Thursday, sheriff's deputies arrested Joshua P. Heerdegen, 20, at his residence on the 400 block of South Hale Street in Wheaton.
Heerdegen faces charges of mob action, aggravated battery, domestic battery and resisting arrest stemming from incidents that took place in McHenry and unincorporated McHenry County, according to the sheriff's office. He is also facing a misdemeanor theft charge in Lake County, police said.
The most serious charges stem from an incident on Nov. 20, 2007 in McHenry, and carry a typical sentence of two to five years in prison or up to 21/2 years' probation, court records show.
In March 2010, after obtaining arrest warrants on those charges, police were unable to find Heerdegen in McHenry County and believed he had left the county.
On Tuesday, an anonymous caller using the Crime Stoppers hotline tipped off police that Heerdegen was living in Wheaton. Sheriff's deputies and U.S. Marshals arrested Heerdegen without incident.
Heerdegen is being held at the McHenry County jail. He will have to post $2,500 to be released.
