Baking queen coming to Aspen Drive library

Kim Ima, entrepreneurial baking queen and owner of the New York City mobile bakery sensation, The Treats Truck, will present her recently released “The Treats Truck Baking Book” at the Aspen Drive Library in Vernon Hills.

This free event, which begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25, will be open to the public, but registration is required. To register, call (847) 362-2330 or go to webres.cooklib.org. The library is located at 701 N. Aspen Drive.

One day, Kim Ima had a vision of baking and serving treats on the streets of New York City. In 2007, that vision became the Treats Truck — her mobile dessert business that has grown into a $200,000-a-year sensation serving New York City and the surrounding boroughs.

Her love of baking inspired her to open this bakery on wheels filled to the brim with freshly baked cookies, brownies and goodies galore. Trying to avoid an expensive and risky storefront location, she bought and rehabbed a truck, named Sugar, to serve as her retail mobile bakery. It has been featured on Food Network’s Kid in a Candy Store and TLC’s Best Food Ever.

Kim, a Vendy Award Winner for the best dessert vendor, recently released a cookbook rounding up all of the treats that made her truck so lovable.

Join Kim as she shares her recipes for many of these baked goods, demonstrates some of her “not too fancy, always delicious” treats and shares stories about her sweet business on wheels.

Books for signing will be available for purchase, courtesy of Lake Forest Bookstore.
