Brush Salon in Downtown Palatine Celebrates 4-Year Anniversary
After years of honing her craft in small business and corporate salons, downtown Palatine's Brush Salon owner Alexis Rodgers took her life savings and invested it in starting her own small business - four years ago this month. Located in the heart of Palatine's historic downtown at 109 W. Slade Street, the salon specializes in hair cutting and styling, color and perms.
Even as a young girl, Rodgers eagerly volunteered to do her friends' hair and makeup for dances and was always trying new and sometimes"funky" hairstyles on herself, to experiment with new looks.
The Arlington Heights native attended Rolling Meadows High School, where she started working toward her deep-rooted dream to become a hairstylist. While she was a senior, she attended Empire Beauty School, and then went on to study and graduate from Pivot Point Academy. She was also selected to study abroad in Paris, France, at the L'oreal Paris headquarters, where she interacted with, and learned from experts at the very top of the beauty industry.
Rodgers says her dream became a reality, in part, due to her team of experienced stylists - most of whom have been with her since the very start.
"I love being in downtown Palatine and really do feel our stylists are a part of my family. I can say that Brush Salon would not be here without all their support," Rodgers said. "It really was my dream early on in my life to own my own place someday and I can't picture myself doing anything else!"
She adds that there is a real sense of community, support and collaboration in the salon, not only between the stylists, but also with her vast clientele which ranges from teens to senior citizens.
"People always comment on how bright and happy it feels inside my salon," Rodgers said. "Our clients feel good here, and many of them end up finding us as they browse the downtown Palatine shops," Rodgers said. "I always have planters outside in front, and if your dog is thirsty, we normally have a bowl of water out for them."
The official 4th birthday of Brush Salon will be on September 25, and all month long, customers can take advantage of a buy one, get one 50% off special on liters of shampoo or conditioner. Also, first time customers can get 20% off their first service at the salon.
