Bills' Fewell heading to Halas Hall next week after Giants interview
Perry Fewell, considered the odds-on favorite to be the Bears' next defensive coordinator, is scheduled to meet with the team early next week.
Fewell, who ended the season as the Bill's interim head coach, had a lengthy interview on Tuesday for the permanent top job in Buffalo. But the Bills are expected to choose a head coach who has previous NFL experience in that capacity, possibly Bill Cowher.
Fewell has a meeting scheduled for Thursday with the Giants, who are also looking for a defensive coordinator after Bill Sheridan was fired Monday. Fewell was Lovie Smith's defensive backs coach in 2005 before leaving to take the defensive coordinator's job in Buffalo under Dick Jauron.
When Jauron was fired in November, Fewell took over for the final seven games, as the Bills went 3-4 to finish 6-10. The Bills finished 19th this season in total yards allowed, although they ended the season with five defensive starters on injured reserve.
Fewell also has ties to Giants head coach Tom Coughlin. His first NFL job was as the defensive backs coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 1998, when Coughlin was the head coach there.
