Regional semifinal wins for Vernon Hills, Lakes, Antioch
Ilya Kravtsev and Jeremy Cohen scored hat tricks, and Vernon Hills’ boys soccer team advanced to the championship game of its own Class 2A regional with an 8-1 win over No. 5 Chicago Sullivan on Tuesday.
Top-seeded Vernon Hills will play No. 3 Chicago Senn at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Caleb Shaw and Jeremy Gonzalez also scored for Vernon Hills, while David White added 3 assists. Chris White and Kravtsev also had assists.
Lakes 5, Richmond-Burton 0: At Lakes, the host Eagles won their Class 2A regional opener, dispatching the No. 4 seed, as Brian Werchek scored 3 goals, while Joey Savino added a pair.
Werchek, Cameron Beezley, Foster Dore and Jon Borzick had assists. Eagles keepers Jack Monson and Kevin Ray each made 3 saves in sharing the shutout.
Top-seeded Lakes will play No. 2 Antioch at 2 p.m. Saturday in the regional final.
Antioch 4, Johnsburg 2: At Lakes, the second-seeded Sequoits knocked out the third-seeded Skyhawks to advance to Saturday’s 2 p.m. regional final against Lakes.
