Fire station open house and breakfast:
Countryside Fire Protection District will host its annual pancake breakfast and open house from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Oct. 6, at the fire station, 600 Deerpath Drive, Vernon Hills. This event kicks off Countryside’s observance of Fire Prevention Week. Cost is $15 per family and includes an all-you-can-eat breakfast. There are also several activities and demonstrations, such as station tours and a close-up look at the equipment. Other features include the Illinois & Wisconsin Rescue Dogs, an inflatable crawl through fire truck and free health and spinal checks, A combined seasonal and H1N1 flu shot will be available for $20.
