Littering leads to large drug bust in Round Lake Park

A McHenry man who threw a pop bottle out of his car while driving in Round Lake Park ended up with bigger problems soon after police stopped him for littering, authorities said Wednesday.

A search of David Magana-Corza's car by members of the Round Lake Park Gangster Squad Unit turned up more than 112 grams of cocaine and 13 grams of crystal meth and a loaded .38-caliber revolver, Police Chief George Filenko said.

Magana-Corza, 21, of the 1900 block of North Orleans Place, was stopped by police after he was seen throwing the bottle out of his car window at Route 120 and Hainesville Road on Oct. 1, at 8 p.m., Filenko said.

Police obtained a search warrant for Magana-Corza's McHenry house, where an additional 43 grams of cocaine, 13 grams of crystal meth, 56 grams of marijuana, and three more guns were seized, Filenko said.

Police said they also confiscated a fraudulent identification card, $3,000 in cash, and a vehicle that was obtained with the proceeds from drug sales.

Filenko said the street value of the drugs was about $30,000.

Magana-Corza was charged with multiple counts of unlawful possession of controlled substance with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful criminal drug conspiracy, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful possession of a fraudulent I.D.

He was taken to Lake County jail and to bond court early Wednesday. His bond amount and next court date is unknown at this time.

In addition, an immigration hold has been placed on him, Filenko said.
