Des Plaines man wins $11,000 on ‘Millionaire’

Des Plaines resident Daryl Merrill won $11,550 as a contestant on the “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire” game show, which aired Monday.

Merrill, a 42-year-old pastor at Christian Life Church in Mount Prospect, made it to the seventh question, but decided to walk away with half of his accumulated winnings of $23,100. If Merrill had guessed the answer to the seventh question incorrectly, he would have fallen back to $1,000 in winnings.

Merrill’s wife, Leslie, was by his side during the taping in New York City. The couple have three sons: Luke, 14, Matthew, 11, and Mark, 8. Merrill plans to donate a portion of his winnings to the charity Mission Possible, which helps rescue street children around the world.
