Two women charged in Arlington Hts. burglaries
Two women were arrested Tuesday after an attempted burglary spree at three separate businesses in the northwest suburbs on the same day, according to police.
The spree started at around 2:50 p.m. Tuesday when Deanna Soper, 35, of Mount Prospect and Erin J. Fidler, 33, of Oak Park, walked into L.A. Tan, 4234 N. Arlington Heights Road in Arlington Heights, police said. One of the women tried to distract the lone female employee behind the counter, while the second woman sneaked behind the counter and grabbed the employee’s wallet, according to police.
The employee locked the women inside the store while screaming for help from customers inside the salon — none came to her aide — and the suspects fled in a maroon Chevy Trailblazer when the employee opened the door to ask a customer outside to call 911, police said.
Later on in the day, the Mount Prospect Police Department received reports of two similar incidents.
The first occurred at Belissimo beauty salon at 9 E. Prospect Ave. and the second occurred at South Beach Tan at 1710 W. Golf Rd., said Arlington Heights Police Cmdr. Michael Miljan.
Police said the two attempted to steal the wallet of a nail technician at Belissimo beauty salon and tried to pull a similar theft from a clerk at South Beach Tan.
The employee at the Arlington Heights tanning salon was able to write down a partial license plate of the getaway vehicle and the two were stopped at around 4:05 p.m. by Mount Prospect Police at Emerson and Prospect streets.
The women were each charged with three felony counts of burglary, but may have been involved in other similar crimes, according to police.
