'Wizard of Oz' opens Saturday night in Schaumburg

The greatest family musical of all time, “The Wizard of Oz,” based on the book by L. Frank Baum, is landing right in Schaumburg.

H.O.T.T. Productions — Helping Others Through Theatre — brings this national treasure to The Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, this weekend and next.

Showtimes are 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18; 2 p.m. Sunday, June 19; 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 24; and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 25. Tickets are $20, $18 for kids and seniors.

The production will feature the classic Harold Arlen songs, “Over the Rainbow,” “Ding Dong the Witch is Dead,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” and “If I Were King of the Forest.”

“The Wizard of Oz” is produced and directed by Chris Seminaro of Schaumburg and features musical direction by Jim Franklin of Barrington, with choreography and costume design by Donica Luzwick of Hanover Park; and set design and construction by Bill Janz of Streamwood and Paul Hunter of Elk Grove.

Starring in this production are Nicole Silver of Schaumburg as Dorothy; Tony Rakittke of Rolling Meadows and Jeff Mazzuca of Arlington Heights as the Scarecrow; John McNally of Roselle as the Tin Man; David Schuringa of Streamwood as the Lion; Julie Alvarado of Bloomingdale as Glinda; Lindsey Gad of Buffalo Grove as the Wicked Witch of the West; and Karl Vachlin of Roselle as Professor Marvel.
