Palatine Library celebrates National Gaming Day Saturday

The Palatine Library celebrates this year's National Gaming Day, 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, with fun games and prizes for enthusiasts of all ages.

The American Library Association has designated this day as a way for the community to gather and experience the educational, recreational and social value of all kinds of games.

Trivial Pursuit will be followed by a game of Bingo and a Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament. Other games, including chess and Wii game will be available.

“Gaming is a great example of how libraries are becoming more than just a place with books, but also a gathering place where members of the community are welcome to have fun together,” says library Director Susan Strunk.

The library also will unveil a new Early Literacy Computer Station at 2 p.m. The workstation has two computers each containing more than 45 educational software titles for kids ages 2-10. The station offers titles that are age-appropriate, engaging and academically relevant for children.

The station is in the children's area, and has a colorful keyboard and kid-size mouse to promote learning and discovery. The library is at 700 N. North Court, Palatine.
