Pep rallies, music welcome students back to BGHS
As students across the suburbs return to classrooms Wednesday, a few schools are getting the year off to an exciting start with pep rallies, school cheers and music from the band to welcome them back from summer vacation.
Buffalo Grove High School was one of the schools that started the year with an all-school assembly.
“It's a fun way to get everyone together, set the tone for the year and get the blood pumping before we send the kids off to class,” said Mark Schaetzlein, assistant principal for student activities at Buffalo Grove High School.
The new seniors started their own cheer on the floor of the gymnasium and freshmen joined in, still learning the school song and chants. Some teachers wore buffalo heads to celebrate the school mascot.
Principal Carol Burlinski spoke to the student body to kick off what will be her last year with the school and told them to make the most of the year by doing great things each day in the classroom, on their sports teams and in their student activities.
