Lisle’s Art in the Park takes place Sept. 7
At Lisle’s inaugural Art in the Park event, visitors can create a little art themselves, buy something they like to take home and help others enjoy the community’s parks and programs.
Art in the Park runs 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 7, centered around the Community Park Band Shell, 1825 Short St., Lisle. Highlights include the Chalk-It! sidewalk chalk art competition, as well as local artists’ booths, an art-car show, and a fundraising auction of wheelbarrow planters sponsored and painted by local businesses, organizations and artists.
Auction proceeds benefit the Lisle Partners for Parks Foundation.
Chalk-It!, a friendly artistic sidewalk chalk competition, will be divided among age groups from kindergarten through the professional level. Weather permitting, the entries will be on display throughout the afternoon and the contest will be juried, with prizes awarded to each age group.
The entry fee is $5; the Chalk-It! application can be found online at lisleparkdistrict.org/artinthepark.
The artists’ booths will be open throughout the afternoon. Works of photography, paintings, artful apparel, ceramics and pottery, drawings, jewelry, glasswork, metal and wood will be for sale. Local artisans wishing to display their creative talents and wares may download the application online; the booth fee is $40.
The art-car show is open to classic or decorated cars, hot rods, low riders, motorized scooters or lawn mowers, any unusual contraptions (vehicles with an altered body), and, finally, youth foot-powered vehicles such as bikes, wagons and strollers. The fee is $15.
The auction of the community wheelbarrow planters art project, which features the talents of local businesses, organizations, as well as artists, will take place at the Community Park Band Shell. All proceeds from the auction of the 21 wheelbarrows will benefit Partners for Parks, which aims to secure corporate and private financial contributions and in-kind donations to foster the enhancement, participation and promotion of parks and recreation within the greater Lisle community.
