No injuries in Schaumburg townhouse fire

A Schaumburg townhouse fire Tuesday morning caused about $20,000 in damage, but no one was injured, officials said.

The Schaumburg Fire Department arrived at the townhouse on the 1600 block of Orchard Avenue at 8:55 a.m. and found the residency filled with a “moderate amount of smoke.

Fire crews made their way into the home and found the fire in the laundry room. Officials said the fire was started in the dryer but was contained to the room. The fire was extinguished within minutes of crews arriving.

The family was home at the time but had evacuated by the time crews arrived.

Three cats were rescued by firefighters.

Fire officials said the village's building inspector took a walk-through of the home Tuesday morning and declared the home to be structurally sound.
