What’s fair in D23 is true for citizens, too

As the District 23 teachers ask for a fair contract, don’t we also have to ask what’s a fair wage for the teachers; i.e. how does their current situation compare with the average pay increases and pensions of citizens living in District 23?

If the teachers are already ahead of the citizens supporting the schools, is it fair that they receive an increase just because that’s the standard or is that really just a reflection of out-of-date thinking that our communities can no longer afford?
