Improved sleep labs part of expansion at Advocate Condell Medical Center

According to the National Institutes of Health, 40 million Americans suffer from chronic, long-term sleep disorders each year. “It's a serious health threat because a lack of sleep can negatively impact metabolism and weight, heart health, the immune system and a host of other body functions,” said Adam Posner, MD, medical director of Advocate Condell's sleep centers.

With the impending opening of Advocate Condell's new West Tower, patients with sleep disorders will find expert staff and the latest technology to aid their improvement.

Two high-tech sleep centers will help get to the root of sleep problems, whether it's insomnia, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy or obstructive sleep apnea—the most prevalent problem the center sees. “We can diagnose a variety of sleep disorders,” says Christine McBride, supervisor of the sleep, EEG and EMG departments. She notes that the sleep centers are staffed with expert technicians and board-certified sleep and medicine physicians.

Services in the sleep centers will include polysomnograms, sleep tests that monitor brain waves, heart rate, eye movements, muscle activity and chest and stomach movement. Patients will also find four comfortable bedrooms featuring hotel-quality bedding, private bathrooms and Wi-Fi.

Opening on April 18, the 175,000-square-foot West Tower will include all private rooms for adult inpatients — the only hospital in Lake County to offer this desirable healing environment along with a Heart and Vascular Center.

A series of grand opening events is planned including a Community Open House to be held from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 10.
