Florida kidnapping suspect caught in Vernon Hills

The Lake County sheriff's office and federal marshals apprehended a Florida kidnapping suspect at a Vernon Hills hotel Thursday, authorities said.

Willie A. Johnson III, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was wanted for armed kidnapping and robbery with a firearm, according to a news release from the Lake County sheriff's office.

Federal marshals in Florida alerted marshals in Illinois Wednesday that Johnson possibly was in or near Lake County. The sheriff's office determined Johnson was staying at a hotel on the 400 block of North Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills.

Johnson, 25, is being held at the Lake County jail until he can be returned to Broward County, Florida.
