Krejsa pours in 4 goals as Stevenson overpowers Highland Park

Impressive milestones galore — and a victory to boot.

Katie Krejsa notched all 4 of Stevenson’s goals Tuesday night, leading the sixth-seeded Patriots to a 4-1 triumph over No. 11 Highland Park in the IHSA Class 3A Glenbrook North girls soccer regional semifinal in Northbrook.

Krejsa reached the 20-goal plateau this season — and Stevenson coach Mark Schartner earned his 200th win coaching girls soccer.

“All the goals are from real good passes,” said Kresja, who gave credit to Austin Gregorcy with 3 assists and Jenna Weiner with the other. “It is exciting and it’s a blessing. Good things come from hard work. I would not have done it without those assists. We just did a good job with our passing and the through balls.”

The Patriots (9-6-5), who play Glenbrook North — a 1-0 winner over Mundelein — for the regional title Friday at 6 p.m., have had a tough time scoring goals the past few weeks.

That drought ended with a 3-goal flourish in the first half Tuesday.

“It was probably one of our better performances,” Schartner said. “Offensively, we created so many scoring chances.

“I’m so positive about the offensive and defensive side of the ball. I think we finally put together a complete game. We have been shutting out teams without scoring or giving up too many. A lot of it has been contributing to getting some practice.”

Highland Park (13-6-2) got its only goal from Emily Feldman early in the second half at the 47-minute mark.

But the Giants couldn’t stop the Patriots.

“Stevenson is very sophisticated and disciplined up front,” said Highland Park coach Kate Straka. “They do have a great player in Katie Krejsa, she did wonderful things that were magical with her plays. We were unable to handle her offensive pressure.”
