Fresh off winning the Lisle tournament championship, Antioch’s girls basketball team improved to 9-6 overall and 3-2 in the North Suburban Prairie by defeating North Chicago 40-32 Tuesday night in North Chicago.
This was the fifth straight win for the Sequoits.
Andi Potkonjak led Antioch by scoring 17 points and adding 6 assists and 7 steals. Lauren Tiffany grabbed 9 rebounds and scored 6 points, and Nicole Kelly added 8 boards.
Grayslake Central 79, Johnsburg 61: The Rams dominated the first quarter, opening up a 24-11 lead, and never looked back as they won their 12th game in a row.
Four players scored in double digits for Grayslake Central (14-2, 5-0 Fox Valley Fox). Rebekah Llorens scored 18 points. Alex Scarbro had 15 points, and Claire Brennan and Skyler Jessop each added 11.
Melissa Dixon led Johnsburg with 26 points.
Crystal Lake Central 40, Grayslake North 25: Christina Freese scored 7 points, and Allie Ceglarek made 4 steals for the Knights.
The loss for Grayslake North (5-11, 0-5 Fox Valley Fox) snapped its four-game winning streak.
Lakes 52, Round Lake 43: Led by Ashley Cunningham’s 17 points, the Eagles improved to 6-9 and 2-3 in the North Suburban Prairie Division.
“(We) had some flat moments but responded well when called on,” Lakes coach Pete Schneider said.
Terese McMahon and Evan Morris had 14 and 10 points, respectively for Lakes.
Chanae Brown scored 25 points for Round Lake (6-10, 0-5), which overcame a 24-20 halftime deficit to take a lead in the third quarter.
“We made some mistakes and (Lakes) took advantage of those mistakes,” Panthers coach Howard Conkling said.
Zion-Benton 56, Lake Zurich 36: The host Zee-Bees (12-3, 4-2) were led by Morgan Garrett, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Sue Crump, who added 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Lake Zurich’s record dropped to 7-10 and 2-4 in the North Suburban Lake Division.
Stevenson 59, Warren 49: Michelle O’Brien scored 22 points, sinking five 3-pointers, and had 7 rebounds for Stevenson (13-5, 5-1 North Suburban Lake).
Ashley Niedermayer equaled her season high with 14 points, and Kari Moffat added 10 for Stevenson.
Jessica Prince led the Blue Devils with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Amanda Barger and Lexi Leneau added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Warren (6-9, 1-4), which led 19-11 after one quarter behind a combined 17 points from Prince and Barger.
Stevenson then outscored the hosts 16-5 in the second quarter.
“We changed our defense that second quarter,” Patriots coach Tom Dineen said. “We went to a full-court press and zone, and that turned the tide.”
