Burlington Central upsets Glenbard S.
Burlington Central 7, Glenbard South 3: The Rockets pulled off a Class 3A nonconference upset, downing No. 5 Glenbard South, which had won 15 straight, and ace Danielle Chitkowski. The win is the Rockets’ 16th in their last 17 games since losing to Marengo April 11. The only other loss was in the first game of a doubleheader last weekend against defending Class 4A champ Moline, which BC came back and beat in the second game. “I’d say this is bigger than beating Moline,” said BC coach Cray Allen of Friday’s win over the Raiders (30-5), who took third in Class 3A last year. Emily Bell (2-for-2, 3B), Bekah Harnish (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBI), Brooke Gaylord (RBI) and Courtni Neubauer (RBI) led Burlington Central’s offense. “Our hitters did a heck of a job on their approach to the plate today,” Allen said. Brooke Gaylord (9-4) earned the win, allowing just 4 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks for the Rockets (26-8). Chitkowski struck out 7 but walked 6 for Glenbard South.
St. Charles North 4, Streamwood 1: Upstate Eight River champ downed Streamwood, which got 3 hits from Brittany Delao and an RBI from Dani Fisher. Kellee Conquest took the loss for the Sabres (8-22, 3-16).
St. Charles East 8, Larkin 6: Beth Barry and Nikki Banks each went 3-for-4 with an RBI for Larkin (3-29, 1-18) in this UEC River loss. Lexi Smithberg also had 2 hits for the Royals.
