Convict’s attorney asks for new trial in Johnsburg murder case
The attorney for a man convicted of killing a Johnsburg teen is asking that a judge throw out the jury’s verdict and order a new trial.
Mario Casciaro of Fox Lake was found guilty in February 2012 of first-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Brian Carrick, who last was seen in 2002.
The Northwest Herald reported defense attorney Brian Telander previously filed a motion for a new trial. In Tuesday’s court appearance, Telander filed supplemental materials citing case law supporting his request.
A hearing before McHenry County Circuit Judge Sharon Prather is set for July 29. Casciaro has yet to be sentenced.
Carrick disappeared in December 2002 from his job at a grocery store owned by Casciaro’s family. His body hasn’t been found, but police said they found traces of his blood inside the store.
