Wauconda Fest starts Thursday

A car show, races and a talent contest are among the many attractions of this year’s Wauconda Fest.

The summertime extravaganza kicks off Thursday, June 27, at Cook Park, 600 N. Main St. It runs through Sunday, June 30.

A $3 entry fee covers all four days of events.

As is the case at most suburban festivals, carnival rides will be open for the duration.

But each day will have special treats.

On Thursday, the festival will be open from 5 to 10 p.m.

A wine-tasting tent will be open for adults 21 or over from 5 to 9:30 p.m. A jazz trio will perform during that time, too.

Additionally, a country band called Hillbilly Rockstarz will play at 7:30 p.m.

On Friday, the festival will run from 5 p.m. to midnight.

A DJ will play music from 5 to 7 p.m., and the Hey Jimmy Band will perform at 7:30 p.m.

A rock band called Modern Day Romeos will play at 9:30 p.m.

The festival will be open from noon to midnight on Saturday.

Bingo is scheduled for 1 p.m., a bags tournament is set for 4 p.m. and an oldies band called 1969 will play at 5:30 p.m., among other attractions.

The Hi-Fi Superstars go on at 7:30 p.m. and an act called 97 Nine performs at 9:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the festival will be open from noon to 9 p.m.

A car show is planned for 8 a.m.

At 8:05 a.m., 5-kilometer and 10-kilometer races will begin.

Other activities include a craft show that will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., firefighter water fights that start at 1 p.m. and the Wauconda Has Talent show, which will run from 1 to 4 p.m.

Johnny Russler & Beach Bums will play at 5 p.m., while Kevin Purcell and the Nightburners will go on at 7:15 p.m.
