District 158 holds auditions:Huntley Unit District 158 is holding auditions for the 11th annual Huntley High School Variety Show. Auditions will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 7 and from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 8 in the high school, Room 1216. The variety show is open to District 158 residents, alumni, employees and students in grades six and up. Acts should be no longer than four minutes. Bring your own accompanist. You must reserve an audition time by signing up on the high school door or contacting Kim Skaja at (815) 923-8810 or kskaja158@foxvalley.net.Not quite as festive:The Christmas spirit got the better of the Fox River Grove village board, which recently agreed to decorate village hall after all, but at a reduced rate. Decorations will cost $4,240, with the board saving $250 by keeping garland off the village hall fence. The decorations motion passed four to two, with Trustees Steve Knar and Suzanne Blohm voting against it.'Memories of Mom' support:Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice offers "Memories of Mom," a support group for women who have experienced the death of their mother at any age for any reason. The group meets from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, Sept. 16 to Oct. 21, at FVVH offices, 200 Whitfield Drive in Geneva. The program is free, but registration is required by Sept. 9.
